Paul Carter’s
STORY

In the early 80's Paul joined the BBC Film unit at Ealing as a camera assistant working across a wide variety of drama and documentary productions working on such shows as Miss Marple, Doctor Who, Bergerac and many other BBC classics. It was here that Paul learnt so much more than just the art of filmmaking. Working with some of the best filmmaking talent he understood that planning and flexibility is key to a successful production.

Paul then went on to join London Weekend Television (LWT) as a camera operator on a number of dramas and LE shows including London's Burning and the South Bank Show.

In the '90s Paul moved into the facility sector establishing Axis Films, a successful independent camera rental company that had bases across the UK.

Axis, subsequently, joined with Onsight, a post house, to offer a complete end to end 'shoot to screen' package. The company was able to offer an unprecedented service to the 3D market with specialised camera rigs and post facilities.

In 2017 Paul joined Nu Boyana Film Studios and managed their UK production base.

Paul has started a new chapter with Get Carter Media Services, utilising his trusted network of connections he has built up since his career began at the BBC.

The Get Carter
connection

One of Paul’s first freelance film shoots in London was assisting Wolfgang Schzitsky on a TV Times Commercial as a clapper loader. Wolfgang Suschitzky, BSC, was an Austrian-born British documentary photographer, as well as a cinematographer on Mike Hodges' 1971 film Get Carter.

Paul was to meet Wolfgang on a number of subsequent occasions, the last being in 2015 at the BSC Operators Dinner. A true legend who saw so many changes in our industry through his life.
